I've found an interesting site with list of some useful freewares (or open source applications) for electronic design & automation. There are summaries of free applications such electronic circuit capture, some useful electronic calculator, and various stuff regarding electronic schematic design. While they have no use for ordinary people, for electronic hobbyist this site will certainly a valuable resources to simplify your task in designing next generation of electronic device.

A Useful Tool for Photographers with Website

When a new visitor or potential customer comes to your site for the first time, study after study shows that you only have a few moments to capture their imagination. That means your website needs to load fast and give them what they are looking for. While many photographers still persist with slow loading, heavy flash websites, there is a trend to faster loading sites that can be equally appealing. The biggest problem though, is that images, which are a photographer’s stock and trade and a ‘must have’ for any photographer’s site are also often quite large files and therefore slow loading, especially for web surfers on slower connections. That has been a problem until now.

Smush.it is a great little web based utility that is of enormous benefit to photographers with a lot of large and heavy images on their website. It simply takes the photo and reproduces it with no loss of aesthetic, but at a smaller file size. As you can imaging, on an image heavy website, this can lead to significant savings in loading time (and means people will be more likely to stick around to see what you have to offer as a photographer). All you need to do is input the URLs of the images you want to streamline like this:

Now, if you’re even more determined to make your photography site faster, you can download this great little Firefox Plug-in which incorporates Smush.It, but also analyses other parts of a website to determine how it can be made to load faster.

With photography websites, however, the largest issue is usually going to be large image file sizes. The aim of any photographer’s website is to get eyeballs on photos.

Smush.It helps make that a little easier and more likely.

CubicExplorer, a Free Explorer Alternative

CubicExplorer is a file manager which is aimed to replace Windows Explorer. It’s goal is to be easy and pleasant to use but still have enough power for more advanced usage.

CubicExplorer is registry free application. It does not write to registry, all settings are stored in files at installation folder.

Up to version 0.90 RC2, Cubic Explorer does not access internet. That might change in the future however when features like online update are implemented.

Paint.NET, a Photoshop replacement

Paint.NET is free, open source image and photo editing software from Adobe that works similiar to Photoshop. Version 3 fixes many old quibbles, including a convenient thumbnail manager for handling multiple image editing, and improved program graphics. Paint.NET is far more advanced than Microsoft Paint, and given its free price, it's a must-have for anyone needing to fix images. Screen-It

Screen It is a small utility (only 150 Kb) designed to simplify Windows daily usage by organizing application windows with in series of Virtual Desktops. Unused running applications are hidden in different "desktop" workspace.

As computers become more powerful, it becomes possible to run a great many programs at the same time. This can make the desktop and its task bar crowded and unmanageable. To combat this overload, Screen-It creates 2 virtual desktops (screen pages) on your single physical one. Only one screen page is visible at a time.
